Understanding Student Loan Repayments

UK student loans are repaid automatically via PAYE (Pay As You Earn) if you are employed, or via Self Assessment if you are self-employed. You only repay 9% of your income above the threshold for your specific plan type.

For students who started before 1 Sept 2012. Threshold: £24,990.

Plan 2

For students starting between 1 Sept 2012 and 31 July 2023. Threshold: £27,295.

Plan 4

For Scottish students. Threshold: £31,395.
